Chesapeake midfielder Michael Kimmel (Johns Hopkins) was named Major League Lacrosse Rookie of the Week today.

Kimmel was the top rookie for Week 12 after his performance in a 16-15 overtime win over the Boston Cannons. Kimmel scored two goals, including the game-winner in overtime.

"Kimmel might be a rookie, but he plays with the poise of a veteran," said Chesapeake president and coach Brendan Kelly. "It was a beautiful shot, off-side and low. I think Michael came into his own Saturday night. When the game was on the line I put the ball in his stick, gave him a chance to really step up as a rookie and win the game for us and he did."

The former midfielder for Johns Hopkins was the second overall pick by the Bayhawks in this year's collegiate draft and has had an impressive rookie campaign, scoring seven goals and adding five assists.

In addition to Kimmel, MLL named Denver Outlaws attackman Brendan Mundorf as Offensive Player of the Week and Long Island Lizards defenseman Brian Spallina as the Defensive Player of the Week.
