Margaret K. "Peggy" Federico dies at age 64

Margaret K. "Peggy" Federico, a homemaker and avid runner, died Aug. 3 of lung cancer at a family home in Bethany Beach, Del. She was 64.

Margaret Kaifer, the daughter of a stevedore and a homemaker, was born in Baltimore and raised in Parkville.

She was a 1966 graduate of Parkville High School who, after leaving high school, went to work as an account executive for the Chesapeake & Potomac Telephone Co., where she remained until becoming a homemaker in the late 1970s.

While living on her farm in Phoenix, Baltimore County, Mrs. Federico enjoyed caring for its grounds and working in the garden.

A longtime runner and a breast cancer survivor since 2002, until being diagnosed with lung cancer earlier this year, Mrs. Federico ran in the annual Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure.

For the past three years, Mrs. Federico had lived in Timonium.

Mrs. Federico was a communicant of the Roman Catholic Community of St. Francis Xavier in Hunt Valley, where a memorial Mass was offered Saturday.

Surviving are a son, Frank Joseph "F.J." Federico III of Hampden; a daughter, Kristen Federico of Dewey Beach, Del.; four brothers, Robert "Boh" Kaifer of Baltimore, Al Kaifer of Agawam, Mass., Tim Kaifer of Shrewsbury, Pa., and Kevin Kaifer of New Freedom, Pa.; and a sister, Ellen Meyers of Fallston. Her marriage to Frank Joseph Federico II ended in divorce.
