August 07, 2010

Retief Goosen moved a step closer to his first PGA Tour victory of the year by grabbing a one-shot lead in the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational on Friday.

While Tiger Woods again struggled to a 2-over 72, Goosen fired a 66 and sits at 7-under 133, one shot better than Phil Mickelson (68) and Justin Leonard (66) at Firestone in Akron, Ohio. Woods is 13 shots off the pace.

Lee Westwood withdrew from the Bridgestone because of a torn muscle in his right calf and said he will miss next week's PGA Championship at Whistling Straits in Kohler, Wis.

•Woods will play with defending champion Y.E Yang and Vijay Singh in the first two rounds of the PGA. Mickelson has been grouped with U.S. Open winner Graeme McDowell and British Open champ Louis Oosthuizen.

Alex Cejka shot a 4-under 68 to take a one-stroke lead in the Turning Stone Resort Championship in Verona, N.Y.

Tommy Armour III shot a 9-under 63 for a one-stroke lead after one round of the 3M Championship in Blaine, Minn.
