Open house Kinetics Dance Theatre will hold an open house from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 21 at 3280 Pine Orchard Land, Ellicott City. Registration will be held for a variety of classes, including ballet, jazz, modern, tap, hip-hop, musical theater, creative dance, dance fundamentals, as well as specialty classes in Pilates, yoga and fitness. Book sale Shepherd of the Glen Lutheran Church will hold its annual book sale from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sept. 10 and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 11 at the church, 14551 Burntwoods Road in Glenwood. Event includes more than 20,000 books for sale. There will also be available a large assortment of DVDs, videos, CDs, tapes and records. Children's books and paperback books will be priced at 50 cents and hardbacks will sell for $1. Golf tournament Howard County Department of Recreation and Parks presents the Celebration of Sports Gold Tournament on Oct. 14 at Timbers at Troy Golf Course in Elkridge. In addition to placement awards, prizes include longest drive holes, closest to the pin holes, and hole-in-one contests.
