The Anne Arundel County Department of Aging and Disabilities has published its 2010-2011 edition of "Services for Seniors, Adults with Disabilities, and Caregivers," a free directory of businesses and individual service providers. Copies are at department headquarters at the Heritage Office Complex, 2666 Riva Road, Annapolis, and at the seven senior activity centers, libraries and Giant Food stores. Information: 410-222-4257.

Senior center trips

Anne Arundel County senior activity centers have announced their trip schedules and are accepting deposits. Trips include day trips, cruises and extended bus trips. To sign up, you must be a current senior center member with updated information in the database and a key. Membership is free. Information: Department of Aging and Disabilities, 410-222-4464.

Farmers' market coupons

Seniors 60 and older enrolled in a qualifying means-tested program are eligible for coupons worth $30 per year in fresh fruit and vegetables at farmers' markets throughout the state. The coupons, which come in $3 increments, can be used at stands with the Senior Farmers' Market Nutrition Pilot Program poster. Certain foods are not eligible. Wii bowling tournament The Annapolis Senior Activity Center, 119 S. Villa Ave., will hold the tournament beginning at 10 a.m. Aug. 23. The center's team will compete against teams from the Pasadena Senior Activity Center, the South County Senior Activity Center and the Brooklyn Park Senior Activity Center. Vans will be available to take contestants to Annapolis; sign up in advance at your center. Information: 410-222-1818.

Pascal Senior Center activities The center at 125 Dorsey Road, Glen Burnie, will offer the following self-improvement/advanced planning programs on Mondays in August:

•10 a.m. Aug. 9: "Seat Belts, Road Rage and Distracted Driving." Staff from the county's Risk Management office will present a 90-minute session on driving challenges. Participants will be eligible to win a $50 gas card.

•10 a.m. Aug. 16: "Easing Transitions" provides suggestions for decluttering, downsizing and home staging. Class size is limited.

•12:30 p.m. Aug. 16: "Advance Medical Directives," rescheduled because of July 26 power outage.

•10 a.m. Aug. 23: "Fit to a T," health information, rescheduled because of July 19 power outage.

•10 a.m. Aug. 20: "Taking Care of Your Skin" discusses common problems such as thinning, age spots, and changes in elasticity and strength.

Single seniors group The Single Seniors Group at Pascal Senior Activity Center in Glen Burnie encourages companionship, support and group participation in activities such as movies, dances, picnics and tours. Upcoming activities:

Memoir writing The course, which teaches how to write an autobiography, will be held 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesdays at the Arnold Senior Activity Center, 44 Church Road. There will also be an opportunity to learn listening and interviewing skills, writing tips and proofreading. Information and registration: 410-222-1922.

Health insurance A representative from the Senior Health Insurance Program is available by appointment to discuss health insurance concerns at the Arnold Senior Activity Center. Appointments and information: 410-222-1922.

Blood pressure and glucose monitoring A nurse will be available from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Aug. 18 at the Arnold Senior Center for blood pressure and glucose monitoring if you are diabetic. Free. 410-222-1922.

Zoomobile, "Fur, Feathers and Scales," is presented by the Maryland Zoo, 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 11 at the Arnold Senior Activity Center, 44 Church Road, Arnold.

Volunteer grandparents sought The Foster Grandparents Program of the county Department of Aging and Disabilities seeks volunteer grandparents to help mentor children with special needs. Volunteers serve 15 to 40 hours a week, providing mentoring, tutoring, advice and attention, teaching life skills to children in special education classes, staffing a homeless shelter, a family support center and other agencies. Activities may include reading stories, listening, helping children feed themselves, setting the table, working with puzzles, and helping children learn colors, numbers and the alphabet. Volunteers must be income-eligible and at least 60 years old. Benefits include a tax-free stipend, paid training, vacation, sick leave, free transportation, lunch and a physical exam.
