Baltimore City parents faking addresses to put kids in County schools

August 04, 2010

In the August 4th issue of The Baltimore Sun there was a comment by a reader who seems concerned that the firefighters and police officers may not be Baltimore City residents ("Do protesting firefighters, police officers live in city?," Readers Respond).

This would mean to her that they are not contributing to the city any city taxes, property taxes and so forth.

I would like to counter this concern with one of my own. As a property owner and taxpayer living in Baltimore County, I am concerned with the number of children that live in Baltimore City whose parents fake their addresses so that these individuals can receive their education in the County rather than the city.

This is one large expense to the county.
