A police officer responded to the 200 block of S. Calhoun Street in the New Southwest/Mount Clare neighborhood to investigate a call for a shooting at about 11:25 p.m., police said. He found a victim with a single gunshot wound to the lower abdomen lying in the 200 block of S. Woodyear Street.

The man had stepped outside a home on Woodyear Street when he was approached by an unknown suspect who emerged from a nearby alley with a handgun, police said. He chased the victim toward the 200 block of Calhoun Street as he fired his weapon, according to police.
