A city police officer crashed his cruiser while responding to help another officer who had cut his hand pursing a fleeing suspect in West Baltimore Wednesday night, a spokesman said.
The officer on foot was trying to stop a person with a gun when the person ran into a house on Bentalou Street, said Detective Donny Moses, a police department spokesman. The officer attempted to stop the assailant from closing the door when his hand went through its glass window, Moses said.
When the officer sent out a call for assistance, a responding officer in the 2000 block of West Pratt and South Payson streets hit a vehicle with his cruiser, Moses said.
The officer in the foot pursuit was taken to St. Agnes Hospital for injuries to his hand. The officer in the car was taken to Maryland Shock Trauma Center for injuries to his ankle. The other driver was not injured, police said.
The person who attempted to flee on foot was arrested and charged with a handgun violation, Moses said, but he did not release any details, including the gender or name.
The crash occurred around 8:30 p.m. Police did not release further information.
