Maryland State Police troopers have identified a pedestrian who was struck and killed while walking on the inner loop of Interstate 695 near I-95.

Alvarino D. Vigil, 41, of Rosedale was struck at about 10:05 p.m. Monday by a Mitsubishi Eclipse merging onto I-695 from southbound I-95, police said.

He was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police. The driver was taken to Franklin Square Hospital for treatment of minor injuries, police said.

Police are trying to determine if the vehicle about 500 feet behind the crash site had broken down or if Vigil was walking on I-695 for a different reason.
