O's All-Star representative no easy choice

Markakis, Wigginton, Berken most likely candidates, though Jones has Samuel in his corner

June 28, 2010|By Dan Connolly, The Baltimore Sun

Berken, Markakis and Wigginton all would be first-time All-Stars, which would have added significance. Making an All-Star team is something they'll never forget, said six-time All-Star Miguel Tejada, the Orioles' third baseman.

"That would be really cool for them," said Tejada, who added that he would vote for Markakis, Wigginton or both. "I told Wigginton and Markakis the other day, you just go in there, walk around, see everything, watch as much you can, be part of it as much you can. There is going to be a lot of stuff to do, especially when you go for the first time. But you never get tired or anything; you enjoy everything."

Regardless, all three said they aren't worrying about being selected and wouldn't be disappointed if the call didn't come Sunday.

"That's the last thing I am worried about right now," Markakis said. "It would be a great honor and something fun to do, but I am more concerned with the organization and getting the organization better and building a strong team, a strong foundation and get this thing rolling in the right way."
