The junior attackman took over Saturday's Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association A Conference championship game at its most critical moments, scoring three straight goals in the third quarter to help lead the No. 1 Crusaders to a 17-7 victory over No. 2 Boys' Latin at Towson University's Johnny Unitas Stadium. A two-year starter who is set to play at Maryland, Carlson finished the game with four goals and an assist and ended the season with 41 goals and 13 assists. With the Crusaders holding on to a 6-5 lead late in the third quarter, Carlson's quickness, stick skills and poised finishing proved the difference. The win marked the program's 25th conference title, including Maryland Scholastic Association play.

Others considered: Terrance Drew, Oakland Mills, track and field; Brad Markey, C. Milton Wright, baseball; Kenny West, Harford Tech, baseball
