A one-alarm kitchen fire damaged a Severn house Sunday morning, Anne Arundel County fire officials said.

The sole occupant at the time of the home in the 8700 block of Downey Road, a man, was not hurt, said Lt. Keith Hamilton. The house sustained an estimated $40,000 to $45,000 in damage, he said.

The 9:46 a.m. fire was under control at 10:13 a.m, he said.
