Report: Favre has surgery

May 22, 2010

ESPN.com is reporting Vikings quarterback Brett Favre underwent arthroscopic left ankle surgery.

Favre's future has been up in the air since Minnesota lost to the Saints in the NFC championship game. He had said he would need ankle surgery if he wanted to play in 2010, but there was no word Friday about his playing career.

Dr. James Andrews cleaned up scar tissue in Favre's ankle on Friday morning to increase his range of motion, according to ESPN.com.

Favre, who turns 41 in October, said April 30 he had talked to Andrews over the phone about his injured ankle.

•A Minnesota judge ruled that he will keep the suspensions of Vikings defensive tackles Kevin Williams and Pat Williams on hold if they follow through on their plan to file an appeal in their fight against the NFL's anti-drug policy. … Giants offensive lineman Kevin Boothe will be sidelined four months with a torn pectoral muscle. … Falcons president Rich McKay says the team is hoping to get a new stadium by 2015 to 2017.
