John Carroll advances to softball semis

John Carroll scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to defeat St. Vincent Pallotti, 4-3, in an Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland A Conference tournament quarterfinal Wednesday.

In the seventh, Rebekah Alban singled and Clare Puopolo walked before Kayleight Allender had an RBI bunt. Amanda Norris followed with a two-run single to left field to lift the Patriots (11-9) over the Vikings.

Puopolo got the win.

Pallotti's Kelly Trimble, who signed with the University of Maryland, had a season total of 12 singles, four home runs and 23 RBIs.

John Carroll faces the winner of Seton Keough/Institute of Notre Dame in today's semifinal at 4:30 p.m.


No. 9 Mount St. Joseph 13, John Carroll 3: Winning pitcher Stephen Hostutler gave up three runs on seven hits as the visiting Gaels (17-9) won in five innings.

Mount St. Joseph trailed 2-0 before scoring six runs in the top of the second. Hostutler pitched three scoreless innings.

The Gaels travel to No.7 Gilman (22-5) for the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association A Conference tournament quarterfinal today at 4 p.m.

Girls lacrosse

No. 4 John Carroll 12, Roland Park 10: Jenn Etzel scored a game-high five goals to power the host Patriots (17-3) past the Reds in an IAAM tournament A Conference quarterfinal Tuesday.

Mackenzie Reese had three goals and Faye Brust two for John Carroll. Madison Formwalt led the Reds with three goals and Caroline Seats added two.

John Carroll advanced to today's semifinal at Notre Dame Prep (16-3) at 4:30 p.m.
