Anne Arundel County Police have identified a man fatally struck by a car Friday while trying to cross a street in Fort Meade.

German Velasco-Santiago, 43, of the 1500 block of Matthews Town Road in Hanover was attempting to cross the northbound and southbound lanes of Ridge Road at about 11:30 p.m. when he was hit by a 2009 GMC Sierra driven by James Myers, according to police. Velasco-Santiago was transported to Baltimore Washington Medical Center and later pronounced dead, police said.

Police believe Velasco-Santiago, who was wearing dark clothes and not walking in a crosswalk at the time of the crash, was intoxicated. Myers was not under the influence of alcohol nor speeding, according to police, although the case remains under investigation.
