Sister Mary Catherine Rogers, a member of the Sisters of Bon Secours who was a registered nurse and a retired hospital administrator, died Wednesday of pancreatic cancer at her order's Marriottsville motherhouse. She was 74.

Born Mary Catherine Rogers in Baltimore, she was raised in Ruxton. She was a 1954 graduate of Towson Catholic High School.

After graduating from the Bon Secours School of Nursing in 1957, she entered the Sisters of Bon Secours, where she took the religious name of Sister Bernadette Maureen before reverting to her baptismal name.

Sister Mary Catherine earned a bachelor's degree in nursing in 1963 from Catholic University of America in Washington, and then was director of obstetrics for the next six years at Bon Secours St. Mary's Hospital in Richmond, Va.

From 1971 to 1981, she worked in the emergency room and coronary care unit at Bon Secours Hospital in Grosse Point, Mich.

She returned to Baltimore in 1983, and then was sent to Rome after being elected a councilor to the Congregation Leadership Team.

In 1989, she returned to her order's motherhouse in Marriottsville, where she ministered to the retired sisters. She was later sent to the Mission for St. Francis Xavier Hospital in Charleston, S.C., where she was vice president and a member of the hospital's board.

From 1999 until retiring in 2005, she was senior vice president of Sponsorship for Florida, which kept local bishops informed of the activities at Bon Secours facilities in their dioceses.

During her years in Florida, Sister Mary Catherine was a member of the board of Bon Secours Maria Manor, Bon Secours St. Joseph Healthcare Group and Bon Secours Venice Healthcare Corp.

She also held numerous positions within her order and had been a board member of the Bon Secours Health System from 1991 to 1997.

A Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 10 a.m. today in the chapel of the Sisters of Bon Secours motherhouse, 1525 Marriottsville Road.

In addition to her Sisters of Bon Secours, Sister Mary Catherine is survived by several cousins.
