Multicultural fair

Crossroads Adventist School will host its first multicultural fair from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, April 25, at the school, 3291 St. John's Lane, Ellicott City. The fair offers ethnic foods, music, educational booths, national costumes and presentations on the history and cultural heritage of more than 30 countries. The event is free, with a small charge for food tickets. Information: 301-351-3959.

Cheer coaches

The Ellicott City Patriots Youth Football & Cheer Program is looking for volunteers to serve as head coaches, assistant coaches, stunt coaches, dance coaches, gymnastics coaches, fitness trainers and competition-level coaches. Information: Linda Lagala-Spano, 410-461-1225, or linda3athome@msn.com.

Spring art classes

Howard County Center for the Arts is holding registration for its visual and performing arts programs running through June 13. Adult courses include beginner watercolor painting, sumi painting and knitting. Youth courses for ages 5-12 include creating comics and cartoons. Civil War exhibit

"Civil War: The Maryland Story," an exhibit highlighting the presidential election of 1860, continues through June 27 at the B&O Railroad Museum, Ellicott City Station, 2711 Maryland Ave. Hours are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesdays-Sundays. Around town

Chess The Elkridge branch of the Howard County Library, 6540 Washington Blvd., sponsors a chess club for ages 13 and older from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Wednesdays. Players of all abilities are welcome. Information: 410-313-7723.

English conversation The Miller branch of the Howard County Library, 9421Frederick Road, Ellicott City, offers "Let's Get Together: English Conversation Club." It's a chance for those for whom English is a second language to practice speaking and understanding English in a group setting. The club meets at 7:45 p.m. Wednesdays.
