An Anne Arundel County police officer shot a Pasadena man in Glen Burnie, according to a county police spokesman.

The man, Richard Anthony Malczewski Jr., 20, of the 300 block of Riverside Drive, was sent to Maryland Shock Trauma Center with injuries that were not life-threatening.

The officer was on patrol at Elvaton Road and Starwood Drive when he saw a man jumping on the roof of a Pontiac minivan about 10:20 p.m. Thursday, police said.

The officer got out of his patrol car and the man charged at him, according to police. The officer used his Taser but the man removed the weapon's prongs and continued to move toward the officer.

A 19-year-old woman then got out of the van, and the man began assaulting her, police said. He later picked up an object off the road, waved it over his head and charged the officer, according to police.

The officer, a three-year veteran whose name has not been released, fired several shots and struck the man at least once, police said.
