Doll collection

More than 100 handmade dolls from the Vilma Stockton collection are on display and for sale at the Captain Salem Avery House Museum, 1418 W. Shady Side Road. Hours are 1 p.m.-4 p.m. Sundays. Information: 410-867-4486.

Flea market

The Anne Arundel County Fair celebrates the 10th anniversary of its Flea Market Series with flea markets featuring new and used items for sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., rain or shine, May 8 and June 12. Information: 410-923-3400.

Law enforcement

The Annapolis Police Department Law Enforcement Explorer Post 199 is accepting applications. Law Enforcement Exploring is a worksite-based program for young men and women who completed the eighth grade and are at least 14-years-old but have not reached their 21st birthday. The program helps youth with information on a variety of programs that offer hands-on career activities.

Meetings are held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on the second and fourth Monday of each month at police headquarters, 199 Taylor Ave. in Annapolis. Information: 410-268-9000, or stop by the office.

Grants showcase

The Community Foundation will hold a "Grants Showcase" from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, April 29 at the Severna Park Community Center, 617 Baltimore Annapolis Blvd. Admission is free. Information: 410-280-1102 or cfaac.org.

Festival

A "Spring Craft Festival" concludes Sunday, April 25 at the Anne Arundel County Fairgrounds, 1450 Generals Highway in Crownsville. Hours and information: 410-923-3400 or aacountyfair.org.

Poster contest

The annual Mentoring Poster Contest, sponsored by the Volunteer Center for Anne Arundel County and the Anne Arundel Mentoring Roundtable, is under way. The contest is open to all school-age youth in Anne Arundel County and Annapolis who have been in a mentored relationship or who seek a mentor.

Posters should show how being mentored has helped the student be a better person.

Prizes will be awarded for the best posters in each category — elementary, middle and high schools — that express the contest's theme in the most creative and original way. Posters must be postmarked by May 21.

Art contest

The Annapolis Police Department is holding its annual "McGruff and Me" art contest. Participants ages 5 to 18 are asked to create original artwork depicting the participant and McGruff the Crime Dog engaged in an activity that is good for the community.

Every entrant will receive a certificate. First-, second- and third-place winners and one honorable mention in each age group will be guests at National Night Out 2010 on Aug. 23, receive a trophy and have their work framed and put on display.

Reunion

Learn to row

The Annapolis Rowing Club is accepting registration for this year's classes. The club offers courses in sweep rowing in eight-person shells with coxswains. Those interested can choose from among six sessions, each consisting of four two-hour lessons given from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturdays and Sundays on two consecutive weekends. Classes are geared to those with no rowing experience and are limited to 16 people. Participants must be 14 or older. Cost is $190. Sessions continue on weekends through July 17-18.

Fingerprinting service

The Annapolis Police Department offers fingerprinting service on the following days and times at 199 Taylor Ave.:

5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesdays

10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursdays

The fee is $5 per fingerprint card, and the person being printed must supply the cards. Check or money order only. Information: 410-268-9000.

Historic house tours

The Anne Arundel County Historical Society has opened the historic Benson-Hammond House and North Browse and Buy Shoppe at Aviation Boulevard and Andover Road in Linthicum for the season. Tours are 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays. Group tours are by appointment. The Kuethe Library for Historical and Genealogical Research, 5 Crain Highway S.E., operated jointly with the Anne Arundel Genealogical Society, is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays year-round. Dance classes
