Radio club

The Anne Arundel Radio Club will hold an eight-week course leading to obtaining a General Class Amateur Radio (HAM) License, beginning Saturday in the organization's clubhouse at the Davidsonville Family Recreation Center, Queen Anne Bridge and Wayson roads. Poster contest

The annual Mentoring Poster Contest, sponsored by the Volunteer Center for Anne Arundel County and the Anne Arundel Mentoring Roundtable, is under way. Contest is open to all school-age youth in Anne Arundel County and Annapolis who have been in a mentored relationship or who seek a mentor.

Posters should show how being mentored has helped the student be a better person.

Prizes will be awarded for the best posters in each category — elementary, middle and high schools — that express the contest's theme in the most creative and original way. Posters must be postmarked by May 21.

Art contest

The Annapolis Police Department is holding its annual "McGruff and Me" art contest. Participants ages 5 to 18 are asked to create original artwork depicting the participant and McGruff the Crime Dog engaged in an activity that is good for the community.

Every entrant will receive a certificate. First-, second- and third-place winners and one honorable mention in each age group will be guests at National Night Out 2010 on Aug. 23, receive a trophy and have their work framed and put on display.

Census assistance

The Anne Arundel County Department of Aging and Disabilities and five of its senior activity centers will be U.S. Census Questionnaire Assistance Centers for seniors and the public through Monday. Locations and times are:

Fingerprinting service

The Annapolis Police Department offers fingerprinting service on the following days and times at 199 Taylor Ave.:

5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesdays

10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursdays

Fundraising banquet

The One Hundred Club of Anne Arundel County will hold its 10th annual fundraising banquet on April 26 at Michael's Eighth Avenue in Glen Burnie. The organization assists families of paid and volunteer firefighters, law enforcement and emergency medical workers who die in the line of duty. At the banquet, the club will name a scholarship winner and recognize current employees and volunteers. The banquet begins at 6 p.m.

Historic house tours

The Anne Arundel County Historical Society has opened the historic Benson-Hammond House and North Browse and Buy Shoppe at Aviation Boulevard and Andover Road in Linthicum for the season. Tours are 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays. Group tours are by appointment. The Kuethe Library for Historical and Genealogical Research, 5 Crain Highway S.E., operated jointly with the Anne Arundel Genealogical Society, is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays year-round.
