Getting there
There are two main ways to get to Cape May — you can drive the whole route, or drive and then take the ferry.
Option 1:
Drive to Cape May (about 180 minutes): Interstate 95 North, U.S. 40 East to Route 55 South until 55 ends at Route 47 South; take 47 South toward Garden State Parkway. Take Garden State Parkway, which is a toll road, until it ends. Gas is about $37 round trip; about 153 miles each way.
Option 2:
Drive to Lewes, Del. (about 111 miles), then take the ferry to North Cape May (about 85 minutes). The ferry offers a shuttle service that travels between downtown Cape May and the ferry terminal. The ferry can hold about 100 vehicles. Check fares and availability at capemaylewesferry.com.
Transportation:
The city's Web site strongly advocates walking around the city, but the NJ transit system has a Cape May Bus Terminal for travel around New Jersey; bicycle, surrey and car rentals are available; and visitors can ride trolleys with the Great American Trolley Co.
Lodging:
Cape May offers bed and breakfast inns, a historic house, historic hotels, modern hotels and motels, and vacation house and condo rentals. Get more details on pricing and locations at capemay.com.
Other attractions:
•Try whale- or dolphin-watching with the Cape May Whale Watch and Research Center or the Cape May Whale Watcher.
Cape May has a variety of beaches, from Sunset Beach, with its free parking and Cape May Diamonds, to quiet Cape May Point. Beach tags are required from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. between Memorial Day and Labor Day for beachgoers over age 12.
Practice your swing, or just have fun, at Cape May National Golf Club or the Cape May Par 3 and Driving Range.
