Spalding's Weiman delivers two shutouts

Right-handed pitcher has 32 strikeouts in softball tournament

Right-hander Emily Weiman (9-1) pitched two shutouts for the No. 3 Archbishop Spalding softball team at the Caravel Academy (Del.) Tournament on Saturday.

The Cavaliers (9-1) beat Sussex Tech, 4-0, and host Caravel Academy, 1-0.

Weiman combined for 32 strikeouts, 17 against Sussex Tech and 15 against Caravel Academy. She gave up one hit and two walks in each game.

Spalding scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh to beat Caravel in the one-day tournament.

No. 9 Lansdowne 6, Dulaney 4: Maude McCourry picked up the win and Kelli Pease had two doubles for the visiting Vikings (4-1).


No. 11 Fallston 17, John Carroll 4: A day after upsetting No. 5 Calvert Hall, 14-12, in nine innings, the Patriots (8-5) fell to the visiting Cougars (4-0).

Girls lacrosse

No. 5 Winters Mill 2-0: Winters Mill successfully defended its title at the eighth annual Falcon Invitational for a second straight year.

The Falcons (4-1) beat Glenelg, 19-8, and Bel Air, 18-1.

Erin McMunn scored six goals against the Gophers, and McKenzie Cyr had five goals against the Bobcats.
