Butler leads John Carroll to upset of Calvert Hall

Brendan Butler went 3-for-4 with four RBIs as the John Carroll baseball team upset host No. 5 Calvert Hall, 14-12, in nine innings Friday.

The win marks a first for the Patriots (8-4) over the Cardinals (6-5) in 10 years.

Broadneck 11, No. 9 Chesapeake-AA 0: Scott Nickerson (1-0) pitched five innings, gave up four hits, walked two and struck out four as the host Bruins (2-3) upset the Cougars (5-3).

No. 6 Glen Burnie 6, No. 2 Arundel 3: Winner Melanie Slowinski struck out 13 for the visiting Gophers (4-1).

The loss marks the third straight this week for the Wildcats (1-3), who lost to Northern-Calvert, 11-0, on Tuesday and to Northeast, 12-2, on Wednesday.

No. 7 Archbishop Spalding 11, No. 2 St. Mary's 10: Brian Cooper scored the game-winner with 3:12 left in overtime as the host Cavaliers (7-4) upset the Saints (6-2).

Spalding's Connor McCroy scored the game-tying goal with 1:06 left to force overtime.
