Northeast's McGee, Hope pitch softball upset to Arundel

Eagles top Wildcats, 12-2

Right-handed pitcher Brittany McGee (3-1) and reliever Brandi Hope combined to limit No. 2 Arundel softball to two runs as host Northeast earned a 12-2 upset victory over the Wildcats (1-2) on Wednesday.

The Eagles (4-2) are the second team in the past two days to upset Arundel. The Wildcats were shut out by Northern-Calvert, 11-0, on Tuesday. And both times, Arundel was without the services of ace Kayla Martinez.

No. 4 Chesapeake-AA 8, Severna Park 5: Nikki Mantheiy improved to 3-0 and went 2-for-3 with two RBIs to power the host Cougars (5-1) past the Falcons.

No. 6 Glen Burnie 11, South River 1: Winner Melanie Slowinski pitched three innings and struck out seven as the host Gophers (3-1) held the Seahawks to one hit.

No. 8 C. Milton Wright 6, North Harford 2: Winner Brittany Stein went seven innings, gave up two runs on five hits, three walks and MacKenzie Fitzgerald went 2-for-3 with a double to power the host Mustangs (5-0) past the Hawks.

No. 9 Lansdowne 15, Randallstown 0: Maude McCourry pitched a five-inning no-hitter and hit a home run to power the host Vikings (3-1) past the Rams. Lansdowne led 13-0 after two innings.

No. 12 Mount de Sales 5, Good Counsel 1: Right-hander Holly Whitehead (3-2) pitched six innings, gave up one run on seven hits and struck out eight to power the Sailors (5-3) past Good Counsel in the play-in game.


No. 4 St. Paul's 11, John Carroll 10: Chris Del Vecchio hit a two-run single in the bottom of the seventh to lift the host Crusaders (7-0) over the Patriots.

No. 7 Westminster 9, Century 6: The Owls (6-2) trailed 6-0 going into the sixth inning before scoring nine runs in the last two innings.

No. 15 Loyola 11, No. 10 Cardinal Gibbons 10: A.J. Lardo had a single, double and homer and Codi McIntyre had two triples and a single as the host Dons (4-4) upset the Crusaders (6-6).

No. 11 Fallston 5, Rising Sun 0: Starter Taylor Nelson struck out six and Tyler Galeone pitched two innings of relief as the host Cougars (4-0) shut out the Tigers.

Boys lacrosse
No. 8 Fallston 18, Atholton 2: Mike Antinozzi and Andy Thrasher each scored five goals to power the visiting Cougars (6-0) past the Raiders (2-5).

Girls lacrosse
No. 7 Bryn Mawr 10, Severn 8: The host Mawrtians (4-0) built a 7-4 halftime lead and withstood a late rally by the Admirals.

Sarah Matz had two goals and an assist for Bryn Mawr.

No. 11 St. Mary's 12, St. Paul's 11: Leigh Ruland scored the game-winner with 12 seconds left to lift the host Saints (6-2) over the Gators.
