A second-team All-Metro player last season, Hutchen lifted her inside game to another level this winter and led the No. 1 Panthers to the Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland A Conference crown and to the Bishop Walsh Girls Invitational Tournament title.

To get to and hold the No. 1 spot, the Panthers had to beat No. 2 Archbishop Spalding four times, including the title games of both tournaments. Hutchen's performance had a lot to do with that.

The 5-foot-11 senior regularly outmaneuvered and outplayed bigger girls to dominate the glass.

"She's just relentless," Spalding coach Bookie Rosemond said. "She wants that ball off the glass more than anybody else does. She just plays hard. The play is never over for her. It's the same thing on defense. She's committed to making sure you only get one shot."

In the first three Spalding games, Hutchen grabbed 51 rebounds. She had 17 points and 14 rebounds in the A Conference title victory, the third of her four-year career.

Hutchen, who signed with Rutgers, averaged 17 points, 13 rebounds, two steals and two assists as the Panthers went 25-3 against the area's toughest schedule.
