Holland scores six goals in Cardinals' win

No. 6 Loyola beats Malvern Prep

Tommy Holland scored six goals and had an assist as No. 3 Calvert Hall routed Hill Academy, 18-8, Friday.

The host Cardinals (1-0), who lost to Hill Academy last season, broke open a tight game by outscoring the Canadian team 13-3 in the second half.

Greg Dutton made 16 saves for the Cardinals.

No. 6 Loyola 8, Malvern Prep 2: The host Dons (3-0), who took a 3-0 halftime lead over the Pennsylvania school, were in control the whole game and used their strong defense to shut down the Friars' offense.

Landon 11, No. 4 St. Mary's 10, OT: Host St. Mary's (3-1) led 10-6 with seven minutes left, but Montgomery County's Landon scored the game's final five goals to win in overtime.


No. 5 Cardinal Gibbons 14, St. Mary's 1: Justin Fratantuono went 3-for-3 with two triples, a homer and three RBIs as the host Crusaders (3-1) routed the Saints, who scored their lone run in the fifth inning.

Right-hander Garth Irwin (1-0) got the win.


No. 5 Seton Keough 9, John Carroll 3: Robi Zimmerman picked up the win for the visiting Gators, allowing three runs over seven innings. Taylor Kairos hit a home run for Seton Keough, which used a five-run third inning to pull away from the Patriots.

Girls lacrosse

No. 14 St. Mary's 14, Bullis 2: Alexandra Hoffman had four goals to power the visiting Saints (2-0) past the Bulldogs of Montgomery County.
