In her third trip to the state tournament, the 6-foot-4 forward used her inside strength to lead the No. 5 Wildcats to the state Class 4A championship. Vails had 12 of her 16 points and 12 of her 18 rebounds in the second half of the come-from-behind 53-40 title-game victory over Gaithersburg. She also had 14 points, 10 rebounds and eight blocks in the 52-42 semifinal win over Urbana. With 10 blocks in the tournament, Vails set a school record for career blocks with 349. A two-time All-Metro selection headed for Louisville, she averaged 18.0 points, 12.5 rebounds and 5.1 blocks this season. She played Amateur Athletic Union ball for the Fairfax (Va.) Stars and has a 3.4 grade-point average.
