A second elderly woman who was a passenger in a vehicle involved in a fatal car accident March 3 has died, Howard County police said Tuesday.

Virginia Callahan, 91, of Catonsville died last Thursday from injuries sustained in the crash. A 92-year-old woman, Madeline Downing of Catonsville, died a few hours after the accident from a medical condition resulting from the crash.

The two women were passengers in a car that was traveling south on U.S. 29. The driver of the car, Francis Callahan, 72, of Timonium, failed to stop at a red light and struck another car crossing U.S. 29 to enter the ramp to westbound I-70. Both Francis Callahan and the driver of the other car, Patrick Eckenrode of Gettysburg, Pa., were treated at Howard County General Hospital and released.

No charges have been filed. Police are continuing to investigate.
