Girls basketball state semifinals
(All games at UMBC's RAC Arena)

TODAY
Class 4A No. 5 Arundel (21-4) vs. Urbana (20-4)
Time: 5 p.m.

Outlook: In their third straight trip to the semifinals, the Wildcats are hungry for their first title since 2004. Rebounding might give them the inside track today. Arundel grabs 38 rebounds a game - twice as many as Urbana. F Sheronne Vails, 6 feet 4, averages 12.4 rebounds and 18.2 points for the Wildcats; she and 6-0 F Briana McKellery combine for 18.7 rebounds a game, almost as many as the Hawks' 19.2. Urbana, which has never won a title, has a balanced attack led by 6-0 F Kristen Juenger (12.3 ppg, 9.8 rpg) and 5-6 PG Mia Kordell (10.8 ppg).

Class 3A No. 7 Western (17-6) vs. No. 15 Centennial (17-5)
Time: 9 p.m.

Outlook: The Doves are making a state-record 14th trip to the final four, but they haven't won a championship since 1995. A talented team with a lot of depth, Western likes to run and can wear teams down in a hurry. Led by 6-0 G Jannah Tucker (11.3 ppg) and 5-6 G Tenicia Spence (9 ppg), the Doves have a handful of other players capable of big games. The Eagles are balanced as well, led by 5-11 F Julia Benjamin (8 ppg, 5.6 rpg), but coach Rob Slopek said they will need to play with discipline, protect the ball and take advantage of every opportunity to pull off the upset in their first trip to states since 1997.
