Kevin White (23 points) scored the last 13 points of the game as the UMES men (11-20) beat 11th seed Coppin State (8-22), 64-58, in the first round of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference tournament in Winston-Salem, N.C. The Hawks, the No. 6 seed, will face South Carolina State (16-13) in tonight's quarterfinals at 6.

MORE MEAC: Kevin Thompson (Walbrook) scored 20 points, grabbed 16 rebounds and dished out six assists to lead Morgan State past North Carolina A&T, 84-75, in the quarterfinals. Thompson, ranked fourth in the nation with 12 rebounds per game, helped the Bears (25-9) beat the Aggies on the boards, 43-26. Morgan State, the No. 1 seed, shot 53.9 percent from the field (34-for-63), while North Carolina A&T, the No. 9 seed, hit 37.2 percent of its shots (19-for-51). Morgan State's all-time leading scorer Reggie Holmes (St. Frances) and Troy Smith (Douglass) each added 17 points for the Bears, who will face Norfolk State or Hampton in the semifinals Friday.

Women: UMES (12-16) committed 14 turnovers, had 14 missed shots and was down by 20 points at the half before losing to Hampton, 65-41, in the quarterfinals.
