Arundel school calendar revamped

March 07, 2010|By Nicole Fuller

Anne Arundel County schools Superintendent Kevin M. Maxwell has announced a revamped school calendar in order to account for several recent snow days.

The revamped calendar sets June 15, 2010, as the last day of classes for students and leaves intact the weeklong spring break vacation in April.

The school system built four emergency closing days into the 2009-2010 calendar, but has used 10. The addition of one day to the end of the school year assumes that the Maryland State Department of Education will grant Anne Arundel's request for a five-day waiver of the 180-school day requirement.

Additionally, there are several changes to the third and fourth marking period schedules to balance the length of the marking periods and to change a planned two-hour early dismissal date.

The changes include:

•Moving the distribution date for third marking period interim reports from March 5 to March 12.

•Moving the end of the third marking period from April 9 to April 16.

•Moving the two-hour early dismissal for all students from April 9 to April 16.

•Moving the beginning of the fourth marking period from April 12 to April 19.

•Moving report card distribution for the third marking period from April 27 to April 30.
