Jean Cajou and Will Holland each scored 14 points and host Mount St. Mary's cruised to a 65-50 victory over Saint Francis (Pa.) (11-19) in the quarterfinals of the Northeast Conference tournament Thursday night. It was the 11th straight win for the third-seeded Mountaineers (16-14), who will play No. 2 seed Robert Morris in the semifinals on Sunday. Kelly Beidler added 13 points, nine rebounds, three blocks and four steals for the Mountaineers. Shawn Atupem , the Northeast Conference Player of the Week, was held to eight points. ... Marcus Neal scored 18 points and Delaware State (16-11, 11-5 MEAC) rolled to a 57-37 victory over UMES (10-20, 8-8), which had 24 turnovers and just three assists. Hillary Haley led the Hawks with 11 points.

Women's basketball honor: UMBC senior guard Carlee Cassidy was named to the America East All-Conference second team.

Redskins: Washington cut 10 players, including seven who are 30 or older: wide receiver Antwaan Randle El, defensive tackle Cornelius Griffin, guard Randy Thomas, kick returner Rock Cartwright, cornerback Fred Smoot, running back Ladell Betts and backup quarterback Todd Collins. The others were running backs Marcus Mason and Eddie Williams and defensive lineman J.D. Skolnitsky.

College football: Junior Larry Mazyck, a 6-foot-7, 320-pound offensive tackle at Friendship Collegiate Academy in Washington, committed to Maryland.

Men's college lacrosse: Maryland senior midfielder Will Yeatman was named Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Week.
