Miss Piggy, meet your inspiration, Lady Gaga

March 03, 2010|By Baltimore Sun reporter

Those who spotted Lady Gaga kissing Kermit the Frog at last year's MTV Video Music Awards won't be too surprised by this.

Gaga's courtship of Kermit (and wearing a dress made out of mini-Kermies) may have paid off -- a report says her royal Gaganess might serve as a model for the Miss Piggy character in the upcoming reboot of Jim Henson's beloved franchise.

"How I Met Your Mother" actor Jason Segel has been tapped to write the project, which will be called (at least for now) "The Greatest Muppet Movie Ever Made."

Segel envisions the modern Miss Piggy living indulgently and artily abroad, a source told hollywoodlife.com.

"Miss Piggy ends up becoming like a Lady Gaga-esque character living in Europe," the source said. "Kermit ends up being destitute and the main characters find him living in squalor."

The script is said to involve an evil oil baron bent on destroying the Muppets' historic theater. All the Muppet faves, including Gonzo, Beaker and Swedish Chef, will rally to save the space with their version of a star-studded telethon.

Perhaps with Lady Gaga's persona serving as inspiration, the taste police won't mind a little puppet cleavage in the future? We have one request: A Miss Piggy/Gaga duet on "Bad Muppet Romance." LOS ANGELES TIMES AND JORDAN BARTEL, B
