Terps' Vasquez, Williams honored by ACC

Maryland sweeps individual player awards for the conference

The Maryland men's basketball team swept this week's Atlantic Coast Conference individual player awards.

Senior guard Greivis Vasquez was named the ACC Player of the Week and freshman center Jordan Williams was chosen as the conference's Rookie of the Week.

Vasquez, who has been honored as ACC Player of the Week four times this season, averaged 28 points, 9.5 assists and 4.5 rebounds in Maryland's wins over Clemson and Virginia Tech.

In an 88-79 win against the Tigers last Wednesday, Vasquez scored 15 points, dished out 13 assists and grabbed two rebounds. On Saturday, Vasquez scored a career-high 41 points to lead the Terps to a 104-100 double-overtime win against the Hokies. He also added seven rebounds and six assists in the win.

Williams, who has been named ACC Rookie of the Week twice this season, averaged 13.5 points and 10 rebounds last week.

Against Clemson, Williams scored 18 points (8-for-12 from the field) and had five rebounds, one block and one steal. In Saturday's win at Virginia Tech, Williams scored nine points, had a career-high 15 rebounds and blocked two shots.
