Business executive dresses up for Ripken Foundation gala

Debi Culotta describes her style as easy and relaxed. "My favorite clothes are jeans and T-shirts. But when I go out, I like to grow up a little bit." For the 55-year-old CEO of GEOVerdi Energy Systems, that means a glamorous short dress, like the one we glimpsed her wearing at the Marriott Waterfront for the Cal Ripken Sr. Foundation's annual Aspire Gala. The Baltimore resident acknowledges that she's been dressing a bit out of her comfort zone lately, thanks to a fashion-forward friend in Palm Beach, Fla., where she's spending the winter.

The look: Xscape dress with black satin top and metallic gray ombre bubble skirt. Black satin peep-toe slingbacks. Black beaded mesh wrap. Silver and Swarovski crystal hoop earrings. Abalone bangle bracelet and bead stretch cuff bracelet. Gunmetal and cubic zirconia ring.

Where it came from: She found the dress and shoes at Nordstrom. The wrap is a longtime resident of her closet. She found her jewelry at Palm Beach boutiques.

All about the accessories: "I always wear earrings. And you'll most likely find me with bangle or cuff bracelets. I love bangle bracelets, and I get them in many different places - from one-of-a-kind craftsmen, too. ... I love shoes. I wear my jeans with work boots or high heels. High heels are my passion. High heels, bangles and a scarf or pashmina - and I don't care what else I have on."

How she shops: "I shop only for an event, and I enjoy outlets and Nordstrom. I've had the same jeans for a few years, mainly 7 for All Mankind from Nordstrom."

Her fashion rules: "I start mostly with a classic foundation. My modernization is always in the accessories. ... I wear solids. I'm not a pattern person. It just doesn't fit my personality. ... I'm long-torsoed, so I'll wear a longer top with a shorter skirt to give the right proportion for my body. ... [Color-wise] I like electric blues, corals, a blue-pink, black, and I love white. I love a starched, white button-up shirt with a little belt and leggings and I'm ready to go. With heels. I like leggings and heels, not leggings and flats."

Stepping out: "I normally don't push the limit. But I have a girlfriend, Debbie Liberati, who's making me push the limit with my fashion sense. I like the classic dress most of the time. I did not pick this dress. Debbie picked it for me. ... And I kept saying 'No, no, no.' I finally tried it on and realized this was the dress."
