No. 2 Mount St. Joseph overcame an early deficit and scored a 72-62 win over No. 4 Calvert Hall on Tuesday, as the Gaels bounced back from Sunday's loss to St. Frances in the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association A Conference game.

Matt Miller scored 21 of his game-high 26 points in the first half for Mount St. Joseph (29-3).

The Cardinals (19-6) took a 20-15 lead at the end of the first quarter, but the Gaels answered and led 40-33 at the half. Mount St. Joseph maintained a lead in the third quarter before stretching it to 10 in the fourth.

Mount St. Joseph's Eric Atkins, the Baltimore Catholic League Player of the Year, had 17 points, and Ryley Beaumont added 16. Calvert Hall was led by Kyle Wise (16 points), Damion Lee (15) and Jonathan Graham (13).

Calvert Hall travels to Archbishop Spalding for tonight's BCL first-round playoff game at 7.

Girls
No. 12 Joppatowne 85, Aberdeen 78: Tejha Patton-Hill and Shakara Head each scored 19 points and Zameria Jones added 18 to lead the visiting Mariners (21-1) past the Eagles.

Joppatowne led by six after the first quarter before taking a 41-29 lead at the half. Aberdeen's Tiffany Taylor scored 23 and recorded her 1,000th career point.
