Hood men defeated in first round of CAC playoffs

Stephen Simoneau made a jumper with nine seconds left to lift Marymount over Hood, 60-57, in a Capital Athletic Conference first-round game. Marymount advances to face host St. Mary's in the semifinals at 7 p.m. Thursday.

More men: Devin Jones and Greg Palmer had 16 points in a losing effort as Salisbury fell to Wesley, 82-64, in a first-round CAC game. The Sea Gulls (13-12, 9-7) turned the ball over 13 times in the first half. ... Junior Steven Ogg scored 24 points to carry host Frostburg State to an 89-81 victory over Mount Aloysius in the first round of the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference tournament.

Women: Senior Caryn Wright (Western Tech) scored 22 points to lead Frostburg State past visiting La Roche in the first round of the AMCC tournament. ... Maryland senior guard Lori Bjork was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America second team as voted by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America. Bjork, second in the Atlantic Coast Conference in 3-pointers, has a 3.9 grade-point average as she works toward her master's degree in kinesiology. ... McDaniel senior guard Ali Moreland (South River) was named to the All-Centennial Conference first team, and senior forward Ashley Lyles (St. Vincent Pallotti) made the second team.
