MIAA suspends rest of basketball regular season

February 12, 2010

The Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association announced Friday that it has suspended the remainder of the regular-season basketball schedule in all three conferences and that all teams in each will be eligible to participate in postseason tournaments.

Because of the unusual circumstances caused by the weather so late in the regular season, the MIAA is waiving its usual playoff criteria. Seedings for all three tournaments will be announced no later than Monday at noon. Play will begin in the B Conference on Wednesday and continue Thursday and Friday. The A and C Conferences will play Thursday and Friday.

The championship games of all three conferences will take place Sunday, Feb. 21 at UMBC, beginning with the C Conference at 1 p.m. The B Conference final will take place at 3:15 and the A Conference will championship will tip off at 5:30 p.m.

If Chapelgate Christian reaches the C Championship final, that game will be moved to 7 p.m. Feb. 23 at Gilman because CCA has a policy prohibiting its athletes from competing on Sundays.
