Terps' Vasquez named ACC Player of the Week

Award is 2nd of season, 6th of career

Maryland's Greivis Vasquez has been named Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Week for the second time this season and for the sixth time in his career. Vasquez averaged 24.5 points, 9.0 assists and 6.0 rebounds as the Terps moved into sole possession of second place with a pair of conference wins. The native of Caracas, Venezuela, led the Terps in points (23), rebounds (seven) and assists (seven) in a 71-67 road win at Florida State on Thursday. Three days later, Vasquez turned in his 11th career double double with 26 points and 11 assists in a 92-71 victory over visiting North Carolina. Against the Tar Heels, the senior guard was 6-for-11 from 3-point range and had five rebounds and a steal in 35 minutes.

More men's honors: Morgan State sophomore forward Kevin Thompson (Walbrook) was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week for the seventh time this season, and teammate DeWayne Jackson was named Rookie of the Week for the fourth time. Thompson averaged 16.5 rebounds, 12 points, 2.5 blocks and two steals to earn his seventh Defensive Player of the Week honor this season. Jackson, a freshman, averaged 17.5 points and 5.0 rebounds off the bench. ... St. Mary's senior guard Camontae Griffin (Dunbar) was named Capital Athletic Conference Basketball Player of the Week and Pride of Maryland Player of the Week.

Suspension: Eastern Michigan coach Charles Ramsey has indefinitely suspended sophomore guard Quintin Dailey, the son of former NBA player Quintin Dailey (Cardinal Gibbons), for an unspecified violation of team rules. Dailey is playing in his first season for the Eagles after transferring from Sheridan (Wyo.) Community College. He's played in all 22 games this season and started in 14, averaging 3.9 points and 2.0 rebounds.
