Woman dies in Woodlawn house fire Monday

A woman died Monday night in a fire that destroyed a ranch-style home in Woodlawn, the Baltimore County Fire Department said.

The victim's name was withheld pending notification of family members. A Fire Department communications supervisor said the woman was declared dead at the scene. Her body was taken to the state medical examiner's office in Baltimore for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

Reported at 5:43 p.m., the single-alarm fire quickly raced through the L-shaped single-story dwelling in the 2000 block of Royal Court Drive near Windsor Mill Road and was filled with fire and smoke when the first of at least 20 pieces of equipment from stations between Pikesville and Catonsville responded.

The fire was declared under control at 6:20 p.m. and its origin and cause were under investigation.
