With one snowstorm having just passed and another possibly brewing for Friday and Saturday, local high school officials are busy trying to reschedule athletics events around the weather.
Anne Arundel County schools were closed Wednesday, postponing athletics events for a second straight day and pushing the county swimming championships to next week.
The finals are rescheduled for Feb. 12 at 4 p.m. at the Annapolis Swim Club. Two regular-season meets were moved to today, and the title meet was postponed so teams do not have to swim on back-to-back days, said Greg LeGrand, coordinator of athletics for the Anne Arundel County public schools.
Meade, Southern, North County and Glen Burnie will have their meet at 3:30 p.m. today at the Annapolis Swim Club. Old Mill, Annapolis, Chesapeake and Northeast will follow at 6 p.m.
County basketball games will be made up today if teams do not have nonleague contests already scheduled. Severna Park and Old Mill play their boys and girls games Monday.
Two key girls basketball games involving programs in Anne Arundel County will be played today. Undefeated No. 6 Meade will travel to No. 5 Arundel at 6:45 p.m. for a battle of teams unbeaten in the county league. No. 3 Archbishop Spalding will travel to No. 1 St. Frances at 5:15 p.m.
In Carroll County, a conflict resulting from Tuesday's postponements has moved the North Carroll-Century basketball games to Wednesday at 7 p.m. The girls play at Century; the boys are at North Carroll.
In Howard County, the Glenelg at River Hill wrestling match scheduled for Saturday has been moved to Friday at 6 p.m.
Reservoir's match today with Fallston has been postponed to accommodate a county tri-meet originally scheduled for Saturday. Reservoir and Mount Hebron will travel to Centennial at 5:30 today. Fallston at Reservoir will be made up at 5 p.m. Monday. Mount Hebron had been scheduled to wrestle Aberdeen today and will make up that meet Feb. 12.
At Mount Hebron, Friday's girls basketball game against Oakland Mills, originally scheduled for after the boys game, will be played earlier. The girls tip off at 4 p.m., with the boys to follow at 5:30.
