Moreno returns to United

Ovechkin top player in January

Major League Soccer's career goal leader Jaime Moreno, 36, has re-signed with D.C. United. Moreno broke the MLS goal mark in August 2007 and now has 131, along with 102 assists. He was the first player in league history with at least 100 goals and 100 assists. Last season, the Bolivian had nine goals and three assists in 24 MLS games, including 11 starts.

Capitals: Left wing Alex Ovechkin was named the NHL's First Star for January after leading all scorers with 26 points (nine goals, 17 assists) in 15 games in helping Washington go 13-2-0. Center Nicklas Backstrom was named Third Star of the Week.
