Report: Harbaugh to take Kansas

December 12, 2009

Athletic director Lew Perkins said he has not offered the vacant Kansas coaching job to anyone despite a report that Stanford coach Jim Harbaugh has agreed in principle to become the next coach.

Multiple sources told Friday night that Harbaugh will finalize the deal in Lawrence, Kan. on Sunday.

Perkins had been interviewing candidates to replace Mark Mangino, who resigned under pressure after an investigation into his treatment of players. Perkins is known to have talked to Buffalo coach Turner Gill and Mississippi coach Houston Nutt.

Perkins issued a statement earlier Friday insisting he would not comment on unsubstantiated reports. He added, "Having said that, I will reiterate at this time that the process is ongoing. We have not offered the position to anyone."

•UNC Charlotte will start a football team in the 2013 season.
