SOCCER: U.S. forward Landon Donovan is in talks about a loan move to Everton that would give him experience in the English Premier League in the run up to the World Cup. The loan would put the Galaxy star on the same team as U.S. goalkeeper Tim Howard and allow him to play against many of the England players he will face in South Africa next June. ... AC Milan's Ronaldinho has been selected soccer player of the decade by World Soccer magazine. Ronaldinho finished ahead of Barcelona forward Lionel Messi and Real Madrid winger Cristiano Ronaldo in the voting. ... A soccer hooligan in Serbia was convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to 30 years in prison for a brawl that left one rival fan dead. Belgrade District Court ruled that 24-year-old Bojan Hrvatin was guilty of stabbing the victim to death during a fight on a train in 2006.

BOXING: The Justice Department is refusing to back a posthumous pardon for Jack Johnson, the black heavyweight boxing champion who was imprisoned nearly a century ago because of his romantic ties with a white woman. In a letter obtained by the Associated Press, the department's pardon attorney, Ronald L. Rodgers, told Rep. Peter King that the Justice Department's general policy is not to process posthumous pardon requests.

AUTO RACING: Formula One drivers would earn 25 points instead of 10 for winning a race next season under a proposed new rule proposed by the F1 Commission. ... All 13 Formula One teams will unveil their 2010 cars in a joint launch next month in Valencia, Spain.

ALSO: Spain Davis Cup captain and former French Open winner Albert Costa was released from a hospital after experiencing heart problems on Thursday. The 34-year-old Costa was admitted to a hospital near Barcelona after complaining of heart palpitations, chest pains and hypertension, the Spanish tennis federation said. He was released hours later and was at home resting. ... The Spanish Supreme Court has ordered former top-ranked women's player Arantxa Sanchez-Vicario to pay back approximately $5.1 million in unpaid income tax. ...
