Alexandria Boat Parade

Where: : Alexandria Marina, One Cameron St., Alexandria, Va.

When: : 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday

What: : The 10th annual Burke & Herbert Holiday Boat Parade of Lights. The harbor will sparkle when 50 powerboats and sailboats led by the Vigilant, Alexandria's fireboat, parade down the Potomac River from Washington to Alexandria decked out in lights. Santa Claus arrives at the marina by fireboat to kick off the fun at 4 p.m. Kids and dogs can have their picture taken with Santa for free. Entertainment includes a brass band and a hand bell choir.

How much: : Free.

What's nearby: : The parade culminates an entire day of holiday festivities throughout Old Town Alexandria. The Scottish Christmas Walk starts the day at 11 a.m. with parading Scottie dogs, bagpipers and 100 Scottish clans. Tour the lavishly decorated homes of the Campagna Center's Holiday Designer Tour of Homes, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., throughout Old Town.
