Vince Goldsberry scored a season-high 18 points, leading five players in double figures and Coppin State improved to 4-1 for the first time since the 1976-77 season with a 77-66 victory over UMBC (0-4) on Tuesday at the Retriever Activities Center. Goldsberry was 4-for-8 from the field and 10-for-10 from the line to lead the Eagles. Kareem Brown had 17 points, including three 3-point baskets, and Lenny Young added 15 points as the Coppin backcourt combined to score 55 of the Eagles' points. UMBC was led by Chauncey Gilliam,who had 20 points.
Other men: Chris Harris scored a career-high 37 points and host Navy (2-3) defeated Towson, 87-70. Harris, whose previous high was 30 points against Villanova on Dec. 22, also was 12-for-12 from the free-throw line. Jordan Sugars added 24 points for the Midshipmen. The Tigers (1-2) were led by RaShawn Polk with 19 points. ... Shane Walker recorded a double double and Loyola (3-2) earned a 58-41 victory over host Dartmouth (0-4). The Greyhounds outscored the Big Green 14-1 in the final 7:33.
