Hit-and-run victim was Glen Burnie man

November 24, 2009

A Glen Burnie man trying to cross a busy road Friday evening died after he was struck by a sport utility vehicle, Anne Arundel County police said. About 5:47 p.m., Gregory Scott Denton, 45, of the 500 block of Crain Highway was trying to cross to the west side of Ritchie Highway, just south of Sixth Avenue Northeast in Glen Burnie, according to police. At the same time, Jennifer Lynn Eichner, 34, of the 2900 block of Beaver Brooke Court in Pasadena was driving south on Ritchie Highway in a 2005 GMC Envoy, police said. Denton "failed to yield to the SUV when entering the roadway and was subsequently struck by the vehicle," according to Justin Mulcahy, a police spokesman. Denton was pronounced dead at Baltimore Washington Medical Center. Based on their preliminary investigation, police said they believe alcohol use, pedestrian error and visibility issues were factors in the accident.
