Fourth-seeded Maryland (14-5-2) earned a 1-0 victory over visiting Washington State and reached the Sweet 16 for the first time since 2004. Sophomore Jasmyne Spencer scored her team-leading 10th goal of the season in the 33rd minute. Mary Casey made five saves for the shutout. The Terps will meet top-seeded North Carolina, a 4-0 winner against Georgia, at 1 p.m. Saturday in Chapel Hill. ... Host Johns Hopkins (18-3) earned a 2-1 win against Eastern (11-8-2) in the second round of the Division III tournament. Jessica Hnatiuk (John Carroll) scored in the seventh minute and Erin Stafford in the 67th scored for the Blue Jays, who advanced to the sectionals for the second consecutive year. Eastern's goal, in the 87th minute, broke Hopkins' six-game shutout streak.
