Maryland offense vs. Virginia Tech defense: : With QB Chris Turner (knee) doubtful, backup Jamarr Robinson is likely to get his first career start for the Terps. Robinson, who played the entire second half when Turner was injured against North Carolina State, will face a Hokies unit particularly strong against the pass. Virginia Tech ranks second in the ACC (and eighth nationally) in pass defense, allowing 163.1 yards per game. Led by LB Cody Grimm, the Hokies are also adept at forcing turnovers.

Maryland defense vs. Virginia Tech offense: : LB Demetrius Hartsfield (hand) is due to return for the Terps, although LB Ben Pooler is likely to remain the starter. Maryland is first in the ACC (conference games only) in stopping the run, allowing 92.4 yards per game. The Terps will face freshman RB Ryan Williams, who atoned for a critical fumble against North Carolina by rushing for a career-high 179 yards against East Carolina. Mobile QB Tyrod Taylor has nine touchdown passes and only three interceptions.
