Jamal Lewis looks forward to taking one final run against his former team

November 13, 2009|By Mike Preston

"The best memory was hanging around Rod Woodson, Shannon Sharpe, Ray Lewis and Corey Harris," Lewis said of the 2000 season. "Just really hanging around those guys and stealing a lot of the knowledge that they had. I was one of the young guys that would listen."

Apparently, he listened well. Lewis is the No. 21 all-time rusher in the NFL with 10,456 yards on 2,947 carries. That's an average of 4.2 yards with 62 touchdowns, 58 of those rushing. He has a good chance of catching Ricky Watters (10,643) and Warrick Dunn (10,967) which would put him right behind O.J. Simpson at No. 18 (11,236).

That's Hall of Fame potential.

"You start looking at those numbers, and that allows him to be talked about," Newsome said.

Lewis said: "I basically want to be remembered as a hard worker - somebody that brought his hard hat to every Sunday, or whenever the game was played. That's what I set out to do, and that's how I want to be remembered - just a hard worker and somebody who came and did his job every single day."
